Influences

Obviously this film was influenced by a great number of things, not the least of which the work of the demo scene and the beauty of the old film footage- but other influences include zen, buddhism, mayan mythology (titles of songs are in old mayan). The primary drive of the film is, of course, music, but many things are built around and superimposed upon that initial framework. Ecology, the ecology of the planet and the ecology of entertainment are central themes. More on that later. The ancient mayans placed great significance on the cycle of a day (the mayan calendar was accurate before the roman one was even made), and believed in greater life/'world' cycles, the last of which finishes in 2018.
So you have the cycle of a day, overlaid with the life cycle, the world's cycle, the cycle of a universe from big-bang to big-contract etc, infinite cycles of atoms as they randomly spin from quantum possibilities of being into not-being, back into being. And foremost the underlying spiritual component of all that. Confused???
Entertainment ecology has to do with the concepts of reuse and recycling - in this case, recycling video footage, and reuse of my music from the past five years.
As a western culture we're using resources far faster than we can replenish them- and it's not too far off now that the majority of them will be spent- the culture needs to slow down, start appreciating things before we discard them - but that can't happen though, without a massive shift in consciousness, in particular a more retrospective focus which appreciates what has gone before us, as opposed to searching for the next big thing.
On the other hand, the film hopefully heartily embraces 'the new' - in the form of 3D art and digital cinema, though it is also re-used. It's a middle path - we wanted to bring some of this footage, neglected by mainstream society, into the foreground. In this sense I think our aim has been achieved.
Well, that's all for the moment - hope you enjoy the film, when you see it.
